Growing Our Impact: Southern Nevada Climate Nursery

ImpactNV has launched our Southern Nevada Climate Nursery in order to establish a dedicated pipeline for cultivating drought-tolerant, climate-adaptive tree species while expanding immediate tree canopy in underserved communities! With funding from Lincoln Dynamic Foundation and in partnership with the Nevada Division of Forestry and local municipalities, ImpactNV has begun contract-growing 500 trees for future planting. We hope to start planting these trees within two years.

This project addresses one of Southern Nevada’s most urgent environmental challenges—extreme heat and limited tree equity—by creating a sustainable supply of trees that use less water than turf and are resilient to changing climate conditions. Residents in historically under-canopied neighborhoods will benefit from improved public health, greater access to green space, and stronger climate resilience, while the nursery establishes long-term infrastructure to support community-wide environmental impact.

Red Iron Bark

Drought tolerant, medium-to-large evergreen tree native to eastern Australia

Southern Live Oak

Long-lived, semi-evergreen tree famous for its canopy, highly adaptable to various soils

Lacebark Elm

Tough, fast-growing shade tree known for multi-colored bark, high resistance to disease, and drought-tolerant

Cork Oak

Medium-sized evergreen tree famous for its thick, spongy bark - highly drought-tolerant once established

Prairie Flameleaf Sumac

drought-tolerant native shrub or small tree known for its brilliant orange-red autumn foliage and fuzzy clusters of red berries

Mexican White Oak

Also known as the Monterrey oak, is a fast-growing, semi-evergreen shade tree that reaches 30 to 50 feet tall and thrives in full sun with well-drained soil
