Clothes DryerWhirlpool receives first Energy Star certification for clothes dryer. Over the past 30 years, the one home appliance that has not improved much in energy efficiency is the clothes dryer. Whirlpool is the first appliance manufacturer to have developed a dryer certified to meet EPA’s Energy Star requirements. The Whirlpool Duet dryer uses advanced moisture sensors and advanced temperature sensors to control the heat necessary to dry the clothes and to shut off when the clothes are dry.

The unit is 20% more energy efficient than the minimum efficiency standards set for 2015, and it is estimated that if every dryer in the U.S. used the more efficient dryers, energy cost savings from dryers alone would total $1.5 billion a year.
