Southern Nevada Strong Presents: Dr. Manuel Pastor.
Have you heard about Southern Nevada Strong? They are working to build a foundation for long-term economic success and community livelihood right here in the valley. The three year project has created a resiliency plan for our community, with the hope of improving regional transportation, developing safe and affordable housing, and creating better job opportunities. The vision of Southern Nevada Strong is to see a complete community with all the necessary offerings for its residents to prosper.
With these goals in mind, Southern Nevada Strong asked Dr. Manuel Pastor to share his outlook on equality and demographics in a developing city. We’d like to share what he had to say with you, view his powerpoint slides here or watch a video of his presentation.
Meet Dr. Pastor
Pastor is the founding director of the Center for Justice, Tolerance, and Community at the University of California, Santa Cruz, currently directs the Program for Environmental and Regional Equity at USC and co-directs USC’s Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration. Pastor’s recent book: Just Growth: Inclusion and Prosperity in America’s Metropolitan Regions, argues that growth and equity can and should be linked. He discusses our changing demographics and what public sector decisions can be made to directly improve (increase) socioeconomic equality.
