As a responsible corporation, Caesars Entertainment accepts its duty to help preserve the planet for our current and future generations. Environmental stewardship is one of the four pillars of Caesars’ Code of Commitment and the company is dedicated to following through on this promise on behalf of its employees, guests and other stakeholders.
Responsible environmental stewardship is also a clear business imperative: it saves money, it reduces risk, it offers opportunity to meet guest preferences, and it engages the organization in a shared objective to protect and support its vibrant communities.
CodeGreen is Caesars’ organization-wide, multi-year strategy to identify, monitor, measure, assess, manage and reduce material impacts on the environment. This data-driven environmental program leverages the passion of employees, and engages guests and suppliers. Caesars employees make CodeGreen a success; on any given day, maintenance staff replaces halogen bulbs with efficient LED lighting, kitchen staff composts organic waste, and housekeeping collects unused soaps for donation, to name just a few initiatives.
Guests also play a crucial role in CodeGreen by making environmentally conscious decisions, from participating in Caesars’ opt-out linen program to choosing our green meetings. Not least, the participation of suppliers help to advance the Company’s risk assessment and lifecycle analysis on the products and services procured, to reduce their carbon footprint.
Since the baseline year of 2007, the actions of employees, guests, and suppliers have significantly reduced Caesars’ environmental impacts related to energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and waste. For example, Caesars achieved an absolute reduction in greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions of 11.4% from 2007 to 2012, achieving their reduction target one year early. Caesars was able to achieve this goal primarily by reducing electricity and natural gas consumption throughout their properties.
In 2012 alone, Caesars completed 37 corporate efficiency projects (lighting, HVAC and water) with an investment of $3.5 million. These projects save nearly 24 million kWh per year, enough energy to power over 2,000 homes annually.
