ConveneNV 2019 – A Decade of Progress

We are mixing things up this year!  Instead of a  typical community summit or convening program we are recognizing 10 years of progress  with a special 10th Anniversary celebration and dinner!

Join fellow community leaders and ImpactNV’s Board, Trustees, and community partners for a special evening retrospective of the past decade of Clark County’s economic, environmental, and social achievements.   We’ll also preview the inaugural release of the ImpactNV State of Sustainability data portal – Southern Nevada’s most comprehensive resource for data trends, information, and national comparisons. ConveneNV 2019, “A Decade of Progress” will culminate with a special signing ceremony and an audience invitation to (re)sign on to the Sustainable Nevada Declaration committed to 10 years ago at Convene for Green 2009.

 

Opening Keynote: Governor Steve Sisolak

“A Decade of Progress in Our State”

Governor Sisolak will kick off the upcoming discussions of our regional success and highlights over the past decade by sharing his thoughts and perspective on the state’s collective efforts, making Nevada a more economically, socially and environmentally vibrant, resilient and sustainable place to live, work and play,

 

Panel Summaries:

“Introducing ImpactNV’s State of Sustainability Data Portal”

ImpactNV announces the launch of the Southern Nevada Sustainability Data Portal, the most comprehensive data portal in Southern Nevada.  Designed to highlight the eight pillars of a sustainable community, the interactive web based portal houses data and exhibits included previously in our State of Sustainability Report with real time updated sustainability metrics. Developed in partnership with Applied Analysis.

A Decade of Environmental Progress”

We will hear from community leaders in the water, energy, transportation, and waste management sectors as they discuss our region’s biggest environmental accomplishments over the past ten years and what exciting advancements we can all look forward to in the Silver State’s future. Specifically, the conversation will focus on the following topics: conserving energy and water resources,waste production and disposal, balancing resource usage with economic growth and a healthy ecosystem, and utilizing technology in environmental sustainability efforts.

“A Decade of Economic Progress”

We’ll reflect on our region’s most successful economic achievements over the past ten years and what’s on the horizon in Nevada’s future. To frame this discussion we’ll examine efforts maintaining and enhancing the current economic base, how to attract and foster diversified economic development, and explore synergies that will allow current businesses to grow and flourish.

“A Decade of Social Progress”

Hear from community pioneers who have tackled our biggest social sector issues will share our region’s significant successes in the areas of poverty, homelessness, human trafficking, immigration, and more; as well as some exciting developments on the horizon for our state. The discussion will center around local efforts promoting a sense of community and community involvement, encouraging a value system that strengthens families and ensures safe community, developing an atmosphere that reinforces the importance of lifelong learning, supporting healthy lifestyles and an accessible and affordable healthcare system, and implementing programs to help those in need while encouraging independence.

Closing Keynote: Matthew Lister

“A Decade of Progress Ahead”

Guest speaker, Mathew Lister is a creative urban strategist and designer; he focuses on the intersection of real estate strategy, the design and activation of public space, and how shared systems can be better balanced towards the needs of people in cities. Often working at multiple scales with both private and public clients, he strives to develop aspirational, yet economically sustainable and implementable solutions. Matthew also brings an expertise in collaborative engagement with diverse communities in the urban change and development process. Mathew will draw on this experience to close the program with insights and lessons learned working on the next frontier of sustainable cities to offer a vision of what could be in Southern Nevada’s future for the decade ahead.

 

Reception & Declaration Signing

In a nod back to our 2009 Convene for Green, founding Trustee Board members Jan Jones Blackhurst and Mayor Carolyn Goodman will kick off the signing ceremony as trustees, board members, and community leaders re-commit to the Sustainable Nevada Declaration.
